Today Mission: Yozakura Family ended and I'm genuinely sad to see it go. However, I'm not sure I can say everyone reading this would enjoy this manga, which is why I marked this review mixed feelings. The first several chapters of the manga feel like they meander and at times I almost dropped the title, but the thing that kept me reading were the characters. They're all written so distinctly from one another and so vibrantly that even the haphazard beginning can't diminish my interest in them. Luckily, when the first major antagonist appears, things quickly became properly interesting and I decided to stick with the title until it ended. Unfortunately, while the peaks in the story were fantastic, the valleys were at times boring or hard to care about. The time skip especially zapped some of my interest in the story, but, again, I just had to know what all the characters were up to so I kept coming back for more. I think the ending was good and exactly what you would expect from this title, which was nice. I'm definitely looking forward to watching the anime to completion even if I know it'll be the same up and down ride.
If you like funny manga that can be heartfelt at times and are willing to at least skim read slower or less effective arcs, then you'll probably like this title too (or maybe you won't find the things I found boring boring). If you want something that has a stronger, more consistent narrative quality, then this might not be the title for you. Again, I would caution that the timeskip kind of throws things into a different vibe, so that is also something to consider, though I wouldn't say the timeskip was off-putting, just not quite the vibe I wanted from it.
