The animation could be better but the script is so good...! And the setting is unique. Give it a try if you're bored of the common anime tropes.

Definitely the sleeper hit of the year. The comedy might be annoying for some, but Mamoru Miyano killed it here - one of his best roles for sure. And when it gets serious, man, does it get serious. Episode 11 (but also 6&7) depicts some of the best spokon drama I've seen.
Excited for S2!

The animation, the colors, the direction, the surprisingly heartfelt moments - this shounen has it all.

The confort anime of the year. But don't let it fool you: its last three episodes go hard.

I am not a fan of Ranma - in fact, I could declare myself a hater, as I read the manga many years ago and disliked every page of it. But man, this remake drips charm! It has a lot of cute details, and the pacing is definitely and improvement over the original. Surprisingly, I enjoyed all its episodes.

I still haven't finished this one, so its quality might drop, but I've been really impressed by the worldbuilding and the chemistry between the main two.

This is a weird one, but worth giving it a try, if only for its direction. Hyouka-style teenagers solving small mysteries in their daily lives, but with a twist ;)

The romance of the year. The characters are charming and it's not annoying - what else do you need?

Although its visual quality drops, it has some awkward jokes, and it has a few atrocious episodes, its first two episodes deserve to be in a museum. The cast has good chemistry and all, but really - watch the first two episodes, and stop there if you don't like the story.

Incredible animation and a surprisingly heartfelt story. If you don't mind cute tropey anime girls (even if they are parodies of themselves), go for it!

Although the animation is ugly, this anime is really fun! Given it's written by the head behind Eyeshield 21 and Doctor Stone, it's no wonder.

Wind Breaker is really, really, REALLY corny, but the fight choreographies are consistently great (watch the OP if you doubt me - all the fights are like that) and well, if you like gang anime à la Tokyo Revengers, this might scratch an itch. It certainly did for me!

I haven't seen this, but I've read the manga, and from what I've heard, the adaptation does it justice.
Ryoko Kui has created one of the richest fantasy worlds in manga, with a likeable cast of characters and interesting themes to boot. One of the most famous anime of the year, and rightly so. Hopefully, S2 will continue the trend.
