Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu Chapter 163 Discussion

*sigh* Okay, I REALLY wanted to stay quiet this week, I told myself, don’t talk about Momo, the chapter will just be whatever and we move on to the next one, but I’m sorry, I can’t stay quiet. My literal reaction to this chapter was the meme “Our (My) expectations were low but HOLY F*CK!”

I’ll try to be quick, first of all, I don’t care if I catch flak or hate for this, but regardless of will or not, I simply do not like Kyotaro being one on one in a popular date spot with some random chick, especially Momo of all people. If the overarching context of the manga was different, and frankly, less uncertain and uncomfortable, I wouldn’t care, but since the primary premise for the past 1.5 volumes has been Ichikawa and Yamada can’t go outside together or else every single random Joe on the street will recognize Yamada and thus it somehow will ruin her career and life, and then they also can’t do anything at home since the relatives will automatically assume the worst for no reason, this really rubs me the wrong way.

Second, sorry but I hate Momo, so a chapter centered on her is one I’m not gonna automatically like. Sue me, I don’t like her. She has mad homewrecker energy. I sympathize with her baggage but I also can’t deny I don’t like her either. It’d be the same with Kankan.

Third, more needless band roundabout dialogues instead of moving on to the important plot points that have been stationary for a bit now. And why do we need ANOTHER (school) festival? We had 3 festivals in the last volume alone: the summer one after stupid flash mob, Moeko’s desired school festival, and their school’s cultural festival. Idk, but it’d be cool to get new chapter setups.

This continues the whole “date vibe” of this that I didn’t like, but I’m rather salty Momo got Kyotaro to sing. Look, I get it was the love song he wrote the lyrics for, but cmon, why is Kyotaro jamming with Momo? I mean most of the time nowadays Yamada can’t even get Ichikawa to say what’s on his mind to her face, if she’s awake anyway, and now Momo is getting him to rock out in karaoke? Aight then.

Last and my biggest gripe with this chapter, f*ck that last panel. It’s nothing more than Norio forcing lame jealousy misunderstanding bait, reminds me of the forced N*R bait with Yamada and Nanpai. Bro, we all read Ichikawa texted Yamada he got dragged against his will, so just stop with the death eyes and “oH kYo iS gOnNa dIe.” It’s just silly and gimmicky. We all know nothing is gonna happen, so why do it like this? Also, it’s more recycling of plot points we’ve already seen! Look, I know Yamada’s yandere nature is part of her charm, but we’ve already seen this structure like 3 times, maybe more. Moeko at that chocolate making thing and the study retreat, Hara during White Day, Hanzawa on the train. There’s enough in the story now to do new things and not fall back on recycled material that’s just kinda silly, and not in a cute way like it used to be. That’s just my opinion anyway.

Only shining light for me is Kyotaro must’ve had some kind of epiphany. I will await to see what it is, hopefully it provides a boon for him and Yamada.
